Outline Electrical and Electronic Engineering Our program and academics Lower division courses Upper division courses Smart Planner

Electrical and Electronic Engineering We offer a B.S. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Most courses are categorized as belonging to one of four areas A strong core of courses representing all areas is taken by all students Electives are offered in each area

“Electrical” circuit elements Power Systems “Electrical” circuit elements

Analog/Digital Electronics Control of current flow (electrons)

Control of moving objects Control Systems Control of moving objects

Communications Flow of information

Primary Colors Different combinations make all colors

Primary Colors

The Future Knowledge of different areas will prepare you to learn new technologies

4-Year Curriculum Pattern The following recommended pattern satisfies the catalog requirements and will allow you to graduate in 4 years: http://www.ecs.csus.edu/wcm/eee/pdfs/eee forms/EEE Curriculum F17.pdf

Advising You will have a faculty advisor We will advise today Reliable sources of information: Catalog, Advisor Check saclink email and “My Sac State” before census date September 24, 2018 Do not plan to drop classes after census date General Education advising at Lassen Hall

General Education (GE) Given: Courses for the major are highly sequential General Education (GE) courses are important but are not sequential Therefore: Identify courses needed for the major and assign highest priority to completing them in sequence Then fill up your schedule with GE

Academic Advice Where: t represents time t represents the time constant It seems that all we need to know are the values of t and t What is v(t) when 5 time constants have elapsed since t=0? What does t/t mean?

Pre-Requisites: Definitions A course “pre-requisite” must be completed prior to beginning that course A “prerequisite that may be taken concurrently” may be taken along with the course or previously. A “corequisite” must be taken along with the course .

Lower- Division Courses Numbered from 1-99

Chemistry 1E Engineering majors on this campus cannot take Chem 1A here, but may transfer Chem 1A A pre-test is required to enroll in Chem 1E Chem website -> Stud. Resources -> Chem 1A Diag. For next exam date, “Check back August 15, 2017” Exam not given after the semester starts Strategy Take Chem 1E as soon as possible Chem 1A is available summer at Community Colleges

Math Series Calculus I, II, III, and Diff. Eq. (Math 30, 31, 32, 45) A pre-test is required for Math 30 Math website->Courses->Diagnostic Exams “CR” or “Aleks” Strategy Do not delay progress through this series for any reason May take Math 45 after Math 31 (if needed for ENGR 17) Math 32 is a pre-requisite for EEE161 -> EEE130 Math courses are available at community colleges

Physics Series Physics 11A and 11C required Strategy Physics 11A requires concurrent enrollment in Math 31 Physics 11C requires Math 31 and PHYS 11A complete Strategy Do not delay progress through this series for any reason PHYS 11C is a pre-req. for ENGR 17; may be taken concurrent with ENGR 17 if Math 45 completed Recommend completion of PHYS 11C before ENGR 17

ENGR 1, ENGR 50, EEE64 Can accept transfer of an accredited “Introduction to Engineering” course in place of ENGR 1. Can accept transfer of C programming course (e.g., CISP 360) in place of ENGR 50. EEE/CPE 64 (a logic design class) ENGR 50 is a pre-requisite to EEE/CPE 64 Some programming courses satisfy pre-requisite for EEE/CPE 64, but do not satisfy ENGR 50 requirement EEE/CPE 64 is a pre-requisite to EEE174 Strategy: Complete courses and/or substitutions

ENGR 17 – Circuit Analysis Semesters If you have not completed ENGR17, there may be no other courses you can take towards completion of the major!! ENGR 17 has pre-requisites of PHYS11C and Math 45, one of which may be taken concurrently, but not both. It is recommended that PHYS11C be completed before ENGR 17.

Summary: Lower-division Determine the appropriate academic load (units/sem) and ensure that all classes taken count towards degree Sequence classes to meet pre-requisites and keep semester unit loads at the desired level Sequence classes to meet major requirements and move directly through math/physics sequence to E17. Summer school can be a great help to catch up with lower-division pre-requisite classes.

Upper-Division Courses Numbered from 100-199

Upper Division: Choices Upper-division choices require advance planning Important Decision: Senior project sequence Electric Power Engineering (192A/B) and prerequisites Electronics (Product Design 193A/B) and prerequisites Electives 10 or 13 units of electives Must take 7 units from one area of interest We offer one degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the above choices are not noted on the transcript

Senior Project Series Electronics/controls/communications Called “product design” Take EEE109, EEE193A, EEE193B (8 units total) Take 13 units of electives Electric power series Take EEE 141, EEE142, EEE 143, EEE192A, EEE 192B (11 units) Take 10 units of electives

Critical Paths

First Semester Junior Year EEE 117, EEE117L Network Analysis (Circuits II) Concurrent pre-requisite to EEE 180, EEE 161 Pre-requisite to most of next semester EEE 180 Signals and Systems Concurrent pre-requisite to ENGR 120 Pre-requisite to EEE 184, EEE 185 EEE161 Pre-requisite to EEE130 and EEE141 ENGR 140 – Not a pre-requisite to anything EEE/CPE 64 (if not already taken) Prerequisite to EEE 174

Smart Planner On “My Sac State” Very New Requires your input

Smart Planner will Create a Plan But the plan requires your edits to make it right!!

Example Student has taken Math 31 and Phys 11A Phys 11C should be here Not here
