Romeo & Juliet

Task One Reorder the Prologue with your pieces of paper using the modern version to help you understand the meanings and the order they should come in. Consider the metre of the prologue – reflecting on work covered in poetry and your musical interests. Shakespeare’s writing has a particular rhythm in places which has a pent (5 – pentagon). This rhythm is known as iambic pentameter. Why might Shakespeare have written in iambics? Consider the context of theatre at the time.

Task Two In groups of three or four, take two lines of the Prologue. On the A3 sheet of paper brainstorm ideas you have of how you could present your lines to the rest of the class as: a) a drawing b) a mime c) a tableau Elect one member of your group to say the lines for when you show your pieces to the class.
