CAT 2: Investigating Water

Section 2 We can break the information you need to find into three broad areas: Geographical Processes Impacts Management

Section 2 Geographical Processes – a combination of physical and human forces that shape a region Examples: Physical: Rainfall patterns and distribution of rivers and lakes. Human: Population increases and urban development Can you colour in the research areas in the table under Section 2 that relate to geographical processes?

Section 2 Impacts – the ways in which the local environment and communities are affected by water scarcity. Examples: Food shortages A decrease in life expectancy Can you colour in the research areas in the table under Section 2 that relate to impacts?

Section 2 Management – the strategies currently used by the country to ensure they have enough water. You also need to think about different ways they could try to use in the future Examples Measuring and monitoring water use Add regulations to how much water can be used Can you colour in the research areas in the table under Section 2 that relate to management?

Section 2 Now, using the research area and focus question to help you fill the table with questions that will allow you to investigate each area of your chosen country. It might help to highlight the key terms in each research area to help you understand what you need to find out!
