Giving Feedback. The right and the wrong. >> giving feedback << (movie) Slide 1

Giving Feedback. The purpose of giving feedback is to promote development. Not to Undermine confidence. Slide 2

Effective Feedback. Is Constructive. It is Not Destructive. Slide 3

Effective Feedback. Involves the recipient in conversation and reflection. To make this happen – ask (open ended) questions frequently. And Allow the person to think. Slide 4

Example questions: What makes people think that ? What could you do to change ? What ideas have you to improve ? What will be the benefit of changing or improving in that area ? How (and when) will you start that process ? Slide 5

Giving Feedback. Find a place where you will not be disturbed. Explain what is going to happen. Provide an overview first – then detail – then ask the questions. Slide 6

Giving Feedback. Allow time for reflection. Be assertive and push the recipient for a plan of action. Build on their ideas – DO NOT – impose yours. Slide 7

Giving Feedback. Help the person through the maze in small steps. DO NOT Confuse them with too much detail. Slide 8

Giving Feedback. Explain each of the charts. Pay particular attention to differences in perception – asking what could be causing the difference ? Compare the comments to the charts. Slide 9

Giving Feedback. End the meeting on a high note. Compliment the person on their plan. Slide 10
