How do I answer a controversy question? Lesson Aim: To be able to confidently answer a controversy question. N.B. Source record sheets/word count. TASK: Re-cap: Lets make a big timeline to remind ourselves!

Add date and a bit of info Timeline…. Add date and a bit of info Truman Roosevelt Churchill Atlee Stalin Cominform Comecon Marshall Plan Truman Doctrine Iron Curtain speech End of WWII Potsdam Conference Yalta conference VE Day VJ Day Atomic bombs dropped. Put on whiteboards and arrange on table.

Lets watch your mini lesson videos! Marshall Plan/Truman Doctrine and Cominform/Comecon.

Relations cool further….. The results of the Truman Doctrine and Russia’s response meant that the any chance of future agreement hoped in 1945 had been swept away. A mutual sense of distrust had arisen and there was now a clear sense of two competing systems. This led to more aggressive policies from both sides……. The Czechoslovakian Crisis, 1948. The Berlin Blockade, 1948-9.

The Czechoslovakian Crisis, 1948 Rigged elections in Eastern European countries by Communists – make a note and also put on your timeline, p29. P29/30 make a few notes on the crisis. Reflection: Why do you think Czechoslovakia was of psychological significance to the west?

Berlin Blockade, 1948-9 Look at the source of Germany on p30 (Berlin Wall). What were the causes? see p31 and take a few key notes.

What were the results? – Blockade and airlift Take some notes from p31/2. Watch the government produced film of the airlift. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nHdB1vJNsg
