The impact of “care-focused” restructuring on the nursing workforce at Ferrara Hospital (Italy) Objective: To examine the impact of “care-focused” restructuring using available data collected from hospital administrative databases. Findings: Data of main interest: retention, overtime and absenteeism Challenge: data availability and data matching Implications for practice and policy: In the current Italian economic downturn, this case-study aims to provide data on the nursing workforce to inform decision makers about the impact of downsizing and restructuring and to improve efficiencies within the system.
