New Multi-redox Htereocycles for Materials Applications Piotr Kaszynski, Department of Chemistry, Vanderbilt University Nashville, TN 37235 The goal of this project is the development of a new class of heterocyclic compounds, such as 1 that readily undergo two 1-electron reversible red-ox processes. In this context, we developed a convenient synthetic access to the triazinium cation 1a, which was later expanded to other quinolizinium ions (1b-1d). Mild and pH-neutral reaction conditions permitted the introduction of substituents and tailoring molecular and bulk properties of materials containing 1. Chemistry leading to 1a was expanded and a series of 2-azinobenzo[1,2,3]triazoles (2) was prepared as new bidentate ligands for Ru. Products have been extensively characterized structurally, spectrochemically, and electrochemically.
