Green Architecture Andres Espinal Econ2505 Prof. MacDonald

Green Architecture What is Green Architecture? It is a sustainable method of green building that is environmentally friendly. It is design and construction with the environment in mind. “It is a form of healthy living and it also has to reduce the impact on the environment.”

Green Architecture Green Rooftops Just because a structure has a green roof doesn’t make it “green.” My Professor, Jill, says, “Green architecture is a trend.”

Green Architecture In order to consider being “Green” the structure has to meet many requirements. Some of these requirements are: Energy Usage Water treatment Heat conservative Natural lighting

Green Architecture LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, certifications In order for any structure to be described as Green, they can go through a certification. This certification is basically a seal so no one can question whether the structure is green. In order to start the certification progress you need requirements, such as: Permanent Location LEED boundaries Project size

Green Architecture LEED Fees In order to get any structure to be reviewed by LEED there is a registration fee. Most of the time the fee is $1,200. This is just the beginning, then they charge per SF and per category. The Categories and prices are: Design: $2250 < 50,000 SF , $.045/SF = 50,000-500,000 SF, $22500 > 50,000 SF Construction: $750 < 50,000 SF , $.015/SF = 50,000-500,000 SF, $7500 > 50,000 SF Interior Design: $2250 < 50,000 SF , $.045/SF = 50,000-500,000 SF, $22500 > 50,000 SF Interior Construction: $750 < 50,000 SF , $.015/SF = 50,000-500,000 SF, $7500 > 50,000 Building Operations & Maintenance: Initial and Recertification after 5 years $2000 < 50,000 SF , $.04/SF = 50,000-500,000 SF, $20000 > 50,000 SF Neighborhood Development(Optional): Depending on the kind of Structure there are: Homes Campus Volume

Green Architecture The Brooklyn Navy Yard

Green Architecture The Brooklyn Navy Yard The future of sustainable architecture is looking bright for some areas. The Brooklyn Navy Yard is industrial but at the same time making its way to become one of the iconic places to visit. It is aiming to become an engine for job creation and sustainable urban industrial growth. The ways the Navy Yard tackles its problems of reaching sustainability is interesting. Starting with: Water supply Rain water distribution Largest Rooftop Farm Energy Efficiency Eco-friendly cleaning products
