And, why are we drawing attention to India? Why India?

Leading research nation There is little doubt that India is becoming one of the world leaders in research. The country enjoys academic eminence in several fields which are important for Norway.

Strong economic and social development Another reason why we are drawing attention to India is that it is undergoing strong economic and social development. Right behind China, India has the second-fastest growing economy in the world and is among the largest global markets. India has a young workforce: 60% of the population is under 29.

Steeped in culture Another sound reason for wanting to strengthen cooperation with India is its rich culture and long-standing cultural traditions. International interest in cooperation with India India will play an increasingly important role in the world due to its political, economic, technological and cultural influence. Norway is not the only country that is seeking cooperation with India. The whole world is looking to India, and sees the exceptional business opportunities there. NTNU’s initiative; “India 2011”, is a long-term commitment and will be a contribution to the realization of the India strategy launched by the Norwegian government.

NTNU and India Mumbai University NTNU NNTNU has already extensive cooperation with leading Indian research and higher education institutions. NTNU has cooperated with more than 20 universities and research institutions in India, including 6 cooperation agreements in higher education and research. We have approximately 100 researchers and students from Indian universities at NTNU in 2011.   What are the plans for the India week in Trondheim this autumn? NTNU and India

There will be close cooperation between numerous institutions in the city of Trondheim, the Mid-Norway region, the other Norwegian hosts and contributors, and all the participating institutions in India. And this makes Trondheim a meeting place between Norway and India due to the impressing interest in this event. Artists, researchers, and business leaders from Norway and India will meet, experience and participate in a broad programme of events. These include culture, research and business, scientific lectures and topics designed to interest the general public. 100 events

There will be a lot more including conferences, seminars, workshops, and several scientific lectures. The event will provide a platform for discussions between business and research institutions in the two countries.
