MYP Personal Project November 2013

How’s it going? At this stage in your project, you should have been: Meeting regularly with your Project Supervisor. Tracking your thoughts, activities and research in your process journal. Keeping track of your research sources in Noodletools or another platform (Easybib, etc.) Revising your goal and specifications as necessary. Beginning to develop your final product and adjusting expectations as necessary.

Uhhhhh……. What if I didn’t do all of those things? Do not hide. Do not give up. Do not pretend you’re doing something when you’re not. What should I do instead? Meet with your supervisor. Discuss how you will plan to change your project in order to meet the deadline. Get a plan: see Ms. Clarkson if you need help. Get real with yourself regarding what you can do. Start tracking everything you do in your journal.

Timelines are our friends December Revise goal and specifications to fit project as it stands. Work towards completing final product. Keep track of all sources of research. Go back and find the ones you forgot to document. Update process journal. Assess yourself on Criterion A and G January Complete final product. Engage in final research and reflection (in Process Journal) Re-assess yourself on Criterion A and E. Complete initial reflections. Write rough draft of project report (end of the month). February Final product and paper due on February 14th. Score yourself on Criterion G with your supervisor and complete reflection. Both of you must agree on this score.

How is it assessed? Process Journal Defining the Goal Graded on thinking, reflection, research skills and communication with your supervisor. Defining the Goal Goal is significant and challenging, specifications are clear and achievable. Selection of Sources Evaluation of sources’ validity, selection of a wide range of appropriate sources Application of Information Use of information from research to make decisions, develop understanding and achieve the goal.

How is it assessed? Achieving the Goal Reflecting on Learning Quality of the final product and degree to which it meets the specifications. Reflecting on Learning Assessment of Approaches to Learning skills developed throughout the process, explanation of understanding of the Area of Interaction Explanation of how you have changed as a learner. Reporting the Project Proper structure, research documentation and clear communication.

Wow, that’s a lot of information… Consult your Project Information packet. It’s on the website if you lost yours. I have more in room 300. Each criterion is scored independently. And they’re all weighted equally. Look at one piece at a time.

To conclude… DO NOT HIDE if you haven’t done enough (or anything) This problem will only get bigger with time. Take action now. Signups for MYP Research Seminar Course (.5 credit elective on second semester) Questions?????
