A Familiar Story (hopefully…)

A Familiar Story (hopefully…) The people in this story represent either DNA, RNA polymerase, mRNA, ribosomes, amino acids, protein, or tRNA. Can you identify who represents what?

Write down the answers to these questions on a sheet of paper. What does Dr. Smith represent? Mr. Jones? Ms. Brown? The email? John? Susan? Eric? The pieces of information? The letter?

Once upon a time…

The principal of the school, Dr. Smith, wanted the teacher, Mr The principal of the school, Dr. Smith, wanted the teacher, Mr. Jones, to write a letter to the parents of his students announcing the upcoming Open House. Dr. Smith asked his secretary, Ms. Brown, to send an email to Mr. Jones, telling him to write the letter.

Mr. Jones agreed to write the letter, but he lacked certain pieces of information. He sent John to find out the date of the Open House. He sent Susan to learn about the program for the evening. Eric was asked to get a list of the parents’ names and addresses.

Once he had all of the necessary information, Mr Once he had all of the necessary information, Mr. Jones wrote the letter, and it was sent to all the parents.

…and they all lived happily ever after. The End

How did you do? Dr. Smith? Mr. Jones? Ms. Brown? The email? John? Susan? Eric? The pieces of information? The letter? DNA ribosome RNA polymerase mRNA tRNA amino acids protein

Assignment: Write Your Own Analogy Your 1-page analogy must include characters/objects that have similar functions or roles when compared to these “major players” in the process of protein synthesis. DNA RNA polymerase messenger RNA ribosome amino acids protein tRNA Include an answer key at the end of your analogy. Be creative and have fun!
