Effective Topic Sentences Your topic sentence should state the main point of your paragraph. Be sure to choose a topic that is not too general or too specific. Make sure your topic sentence is a complete thought. Avoid announcing your topic. Example: I will talk about the reasons for the popularity of reality television shows.
