Human Skull. Human Skull – 22 bones 2 parts: 1.Cranium (8 bones fused at sutures) – protects brain, provides muscle attachment, sinuses reduce weight.

The Head

Head is composed of the cranium, face and teeth Cranium Made of several bones and sensory organs Cranium Function: protect the brain and spinal cord Made up of 8 bones Face Made of 14 bones Intricate arterial-venous system Alot of blood flows through head Open wounds bleed a lot 2 orifices (openings): mouth and nasal cavity

Between the cranium and face 2 orbital cavities ( hold the eyes) All bones in skulls articulate together EXCEPT mandible Connected at the temporal bones

Bones of the cranium Bones you should know: Frontal -- Temporal Parietal -- Occipital

Facial Bones Face is composed of eyes, ears, nose, jaw, and mouth Bones you should know: Nasal Maxilla Mandible Zygomatic

The Skull connects to the spine with the 1st and 2nd vertebra Atlas (1st) and axis (2nd) Nodding the head is from the articulation of atlas and occipital bone -- Rotation is articulation atlas and axis
