10 Oct 2013 Find your new seat Turn in your map. Make sure your name is on the map. Make sure you numbered your facts for each colony (1-3 Massachusetts, 1-3 Connecticut, etc). Turn to page 19 on your vocab book. Identify the pro and con arguments (write pro or con in the margins) Identify the supporting details for each argument (underline the supporting details) Show me you have done both steps. Complete page 23 (prepare for a debate).

Pro = in favor of a closed adoption Con = against closed adoption, in favor of open adoption.

Democracy vs. Dictatorship Democracy = everyone has an opportunity to voice his/her opinion and come together for consensus decision. Dictatorship = dissidence is not welcomed. Decisions are made by one leader. Toleration, you are not asked to be BFFs with your new group, but you are expected to work together when asked.

Southern Colonies Farming culture, highly reliant on slave labor. Tidewater = large plantations that grow cash crops, a lot of slaves >25 Backcountry = smaller farm, few slaves < 5. Slaves would work together with their owner…very modest existence

Maryland Safe haven for Catholics, Act of Toleration (1649). Protestants will soon outnumber the Catholics.

Bacon’s Rebellion Why? Settlers wanted more land. Government didn’t want to further upset the natives. Settlers burn the capital (Jamestown) Members are executed

Slavery grows Slavery steadily grows throughout the 1600s, but begins to pick up in the 1700s. Slave codes treated enslaved Africans not as human beings but as property. Slave codes are based in racism.
