How did the Arab Empire change after the Umayyads? Fought over who had the right to succeed Muhammad as a caliph Split into two groups Sunni Shia Still split to this day

How did the Arab Empire change after the Umayyads? Shia: believed Ali, Muhammad’s son in law was right heir Sunni: outnumbered Shia, believed Umayyad caliphs as rightful rulers
