Planning Ahead for Your Club Presenter needs to enter their name and club Your Name Rotary Club of Classification

Why Plan?

Planning is Your Road Map Where are you now Where do you want to be Figure out how to get there The road map view is extremely helpful to visualize what needs to be prioritized year-by-year to achieve your vision

Proactive not reactive Communicates a common message Benefits of Planning Proactive not reactive Communicates a common message Simplifies decision making Aligns resources to priorities You set direction and priorities….. communicate the message…, Get everyone on the same page…., You simplify decision-making ….Align your resources to priorities by making sure that what you are doing goes with your set goals.

Six Steps to successful Planning r ROTARY STRATEGIC PLANNING GUIDE Six Steps to successful Planning Just Google “Rotary Strategic Planning Guide” to find it online.

The Process Explore club’s current condition Prepare vision statement Align vision statement with club’s current condition Set priorities to achieve vision This is the process – HANDOUT - review these steps as outlined in RI Planning Tool; let’s look at some of these ideas in more detail. List 3 to 5 yearly goals to support priorities Track the club’s new strategic plan

Where Are We Now First step is to assess where your club is now. Consider SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges) and surveying members. One tool is a checklist called the Rotary Club Health Check.

Club Strengths And Weaknesses Opportunities Challenges Where Are We Now WORKSHOP EXERCISE Club Strengths And Weaknesses Opportunities Challenges Hand out the “Where are you now?” page of the Strategic Planning Worksheet in the Rotary Strategic Planning Guide. Can then ask participants to take a moment to think about the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges) as they relate to their own club …… If time allows, you can have them share one or two items (either with a neighbor or with the whole group).

Where Do You Want To Be Describe your ideal future club Does your club have a vision? Does everyone share the same vision? Can ask a few people to tell you one or two things to describe what their Rotary club will be ideally be like in five years. If needed, help by suggesting aspects to describe (club size, how community sees the club, club projects, how will members describe their club and how will they feel); what else. What will be different about your club? What if different members, or different presidents each year have a different vision? Discuss club visioning. Ask who has participated in a visioning session with their club (go to next slide)

District Visioning Help is available from experienced strategic planning professionals Candy Pierce, PDG Visioning Team Leader candy4golf@aol.com Ask if any clubs have participated and results, experience

Getting there Set SMART club goals Budgeting – part of planning ahead Club budget should align with club goals Google “Rotary Club Treasurer’s Manual” The Rotary Club Treasurer’s Manual has details on the financial aspect of club planning, including a sample budget in the appendixes.

How Are We Doing Monitor progress Review club goals throughout the year Update/adapt as needed
