Joined the EU on 1 May 2004 First time to host the EU Presidency In trio of Presidencies with NL and SK (2016-17) Capital city – Valletta (6,500 inhabitants) Largest city – Birkirkara (22,000 inhabitants) Language – Maltese (and English/Italian) National currency – Euro adopted on 01.01.2008
