Parasitology department Interactive session II

Group task I Problem solving : Case study Students will be Classified into groups Demonstration of the case scenario Students in each group will analyze the problem and answer the given questions

Twenty-five years old male patient, work as a farmer, was presented to the hospital complaining of cough, expectoration, dyspnea and fever for approximately ten days, he was hospitalized. Chest examination and chest X-ray revealed bilateral lower zone patches of consolidation. Based on these findings he was diagnosed as acute bacterial pneumonia and empirical antibiotic treatment was begun. The patient's fever and respiratory complaint did not respond to the antibiotics therapy.

Repeated sputum Gram stains were negative, and both sputum and blood cultures were sterile. Sputum smear was negative for acid-fast bacilli, but it was positive for Charcot lyden crystals . CBC showed eosinophilia.   During the course investigations, the symptoms subside and the patient was released from the hospital

5 weeks later the patient was presented to the outpatient clinic complaining of abdominal pain, as routine investigation stool analysis was performed and the shown parasite egg was found in stool sample.

Analyze the case?????
