By: Sahar M. 8 Grade Girls.  Motion is the action or process of moving or changing place or position.  Acceleration is the change in velocity divided.
Bell Ringer Sports announcers will occasionally say that a person is accelerating if he/she is moving fast. Why is this not an accurate description of.
Acceleration Acceleration – the rate at which velocity changes  Can be an: Increase in speed Decrease in speed Change in direction.
aav t v = aav = average acceleration; v = change in velocity;
What does it mean to accelerate anyway?? TO ACCELERATE YOU MUST CHANGE YOUR VELOCITY!! VELOCITY CHANGES IF…. 1. Increase Speed 2. Decrease Speed 3. Change.

Acceleration

Change in Velocity Acceleration- The rate of change of velocity. You are at a stoplight and the light turns green so you step on the gas petal. How is the car’s speed changing? What happens to the speedometer? You come to a stop sign and apply the brakes. How is your speed changing? What happens to the speedometer? Acceleration- The rate of change of velocity.

A Change in velocity can be either: A change in speed OR A change in direction A merry-go round is running at a constant speed. What is happening to the velocity? Why? Is there acceleration? Why?

acceleration= final velocity- initial velocity time a = (vf – vi) t

Calculate the acceleration for this problem in your notes. A car traveling at 6 m/s accelerates to 9 m/s in 3 seconds. What is the car’s acceleration? Calculate the acceleration for this problem in your notes.

Calculate the rest of the acceleration problem in your notes A car traveling at 6 m/s slams on the breaks to avoid hitting a deer. The car comes to a safe stop 6 seconds after applying the breaks. What is the car’s acceleration? vf - vi = a time 0 m/s – 6m/s = 6 seconds Calculate the rest of the acceleration problem in your notes
