How to Become a CACFP Sponsor Child Care Centers Adult Day Care Centers At-Risk Afterschool Meals and Snacks Programs Homeless Emergency Shelters Outside School Hours Care Center Head Start The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) provides reimbursement for nutritious meals and snacks served to eligible children and adults in care settings. Programs eligible to participate include: Child Care Centers, including for-profit and non-profit Head Starts Outside School Hours Care Centers Homeless and emergency shelters At-Risk Afterschool Meals and Snacks programs, and Adult Care Centers. The CACFP is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered in Oregon by the Oregon Department of Education. If you offer in-home daycare there is a separate application process. The CACFP Eligibility Survey will help you determine if your organization is eligible for the CACFP. If your organization is eligible you will move to the Training and Application step. If your organization is not eligible, please call 503-947-5894 and ask for the Specialist of the Day to discuss your organization’s eligibility further, if desired. Application materials are located on the ODE CNP New Sponsor Application website. The link is located on the slide. Once you’re on the website you will see links to application materials that are specified by program type. You will complete and submit the application materials specific to your program type. As part of the application, your organization must demonstrate that it has adequate financial resources to operate the CACFP on a daily basis, has adequate sources of funds to continue to pay employees and suppliers during periods of temporary interruptions in Program payments and/or to pay debts when fiscal claims have been assessed against the institution, and can document financial viability. ODE CNP can only approve applications that meet financial viability. To document financial viability your organization may be asked to submit any of the following: IRS tax documents, balance sheet, profit and loss statements, income statements, bank statements, etc. Submit all application materials to ode.communitynutrition@state.or.us You will also be required to submit online applications. The online applications will be submitted after the paper application materials have been received. You will also need to complete training sessions that are specific to your program type. The application checklist will include the names of the training sessions your organization must complete. Please follow the directions on the checklist to document that the required trainings were completed.

The Specialist will assist you through the remaining steps of the process. At this point, you will need to begin implementing CACFP requirements after your organization has submitted its application, and completed training.

The pre-approval visit may result in submitting follow-up information or documentation prior to approval.

You will be able to submit claims for meal reimbursement with the most recent approved month in CNPweb, ODE CNP’s online application and claiming system. If the pre-approval is unsuccessful, your application may be denied.
