Common discovery mode for PAC WPAN <month year> doc.: IEEE 802.15-<doc#> Common discovery mode for PAC WPAN Sub-GHz 2.4 GHz PD 5 GHz Neighbor PD discovery WPAN discovery for association/initiation See PHY proposals for common discovery mode (15-13-0182rev0, 15-13-0275rev0) <author>, <company>

Common discovery mode for PAC WPAN Common MAC/PHY for PAC discovery is different from the communication mode. should be simple and energy-efficient. provides fast and scalable PD discovery mechanism. NHL MAC Common Mode MAC Communication Mode PHY Common Mode PHY 1 PHY 2 PHY 3

Illustration of PD discovery PD A Discovery-Request TCS PD B PD C Asynchronous Request command Tx: PDs do not need to be synchronized. But, TR > TCS

PD discovery via common mode Simple but fast discovery procedure: Asynchronous channel access Not passive PD discovery (listening/scanning the channel) Active PD discovery using request command Low power operation: Every PD shall sample the channel periodically. PD that wishes to discover neighboring devices sends request command longer than the channel sample listening period. Scalable discovery : Response only to the appropriate PD discovery request Avoid collision due to responses from unnecessary PDs Save power consumption due to unnecessary Tx/Rx Discovery request includes IDs to discover.
