Professional & Purposeful Email Etiquette for KSD Students

Recipients Recipients: Click this text field to type email addresses of who you are sending a message. Cc: (copy) Include a copy to any person mentioned in your email. Bcc: (blind copy) Do not use.

Subject Line Brief, accurate description of the message. Subject, class period, and assignment. re: Science, Period 2, Fast Plants Recording Sheet

Professional When emailing your teacher: Do not use their first name. Greet them politely. Dear Mrs. Smith,

Professional Be polite. Never send an email when you’re upset or angry.

Purposeful State your question, problem, or request right away. Be succinct, brief, and to the point. I was absent today and I do not understand where to find the data to complete the recording log.

Purposeful Ask simple questions/communicate about school work. Keep requests simple or wait to speak with your teacher face-to-face.

CAPITALS!!!! Capitals and extra exclamation points in email convey shouting or anger. Do not use. I AM SOOOO WORRIED I AM GOING TO GET A FAILING GRADE ON THIS ASSIGNMENT!!!!!

Abbreviations and slang Email is not the same as sending a text. Emailing your teacher is not the same as emailing your friend. Remember to keep it professional. Hey Mrs Smith - How R U? My dog 8 my HW. JK!!!

Review Read your email before you click send. Check for spelling and grammar mistakes.

Signature Remember to sign off with your full name. Thank you, Sam Smith

Email is not private Do not put anything in an email you do not want others to see.
