Adolescent Responsive Programming

Summary of Program Project Africa (PRAF) is a Local community based Organization initiated in 2014 to respond to the reproductive health needs and livelihoods for the young people in Africa and specifically Uganda. This was after the long scotching instabilities and war that resulted into poverty, disease, child mothers and high school dropout rates. Project Africa was then birthed to empower the young generation and also ensure promotion of access to quality health information and service and vocational skills as a way to improve the wellbeing and standards of living for the young people In its initial stages, PRAF has been supported by Jacqueline Boyne’s an American Evangelist to reach the young people in kamuli and Kasese district with Sexual reproductive health information and also provision of educational support to the Orphans and vulnerable children.

Program Core Strategies The program activities are aligned to the core strategies of work which include Advocacy and lobbying, Capacity building Awareness-raising, Networking and Partnership building, Monitoring ,Research and documentation

Achievements Established and registered the CBO locally and attained an address Focal persons for specific communities identified and trained accordingly Mapping of communities and beneficiary areas has been done Provided scholarships to over 20 pupils and have maintained them in schools Trained over 60 peer educators in Kasese district. Trained teachers and selected pupils in menstrual hygiene management

Lessons learnt Participatory and empowerment approaches for young people should be used a alongside health focused interventions, this will increase access to essential health care and other support services Partnerships with other implementing partners and youth friendly service providers is the surest way to foster various interventions. This creates coordinated approaches and harmonised implementation of programmatic activities.
