1 Daily Warm-Up Exercises Day 7 Explain why this is true: When a metamorphic rock is forming, it may be subjected to extremely high temperatures, yet it.
Metamorphic Rocks  A rock that is subjected to heat and pressure.  They may be formed simply by being deep beneath the Earth's surface.  Being formed.

Daily Warm-Up Exercises Day 8 What are the two types of igneous rocks? Intrusive and extrusive What's the difference between the them? Intrusive forms inside the Earth. Extrusive forms outside the Earth. What do most rocks have in common? Most rocks are made of minerals What are minerals? inorganic (non-living), natural (not man-made), solid substances Daily Warm-Up Exercises 1 Daily Warm-Up Exercises 1

Salol Crystals (Part 2, steps 11-18) Investigation 8 One Rock to Another 2

Variables What are some of the variables that might affect the size of the crystals that form? Temperature Rate of cooling Length of time in hot water The way the bottle lies as it cools

Crystal Size Investigation Procedure: 1. Each group will get 2 bottles of salol. 2. Place both bottles in hot water to melt. 3. Place one bottle on its side in ice water and the other bottle on its side in room temperature water. 4. Observe and record every 30 seconds. 5. Compare the crystals in the two bottles when all the material has crystallized. 4

(Ex: Cold Water, Lying Flat) Data Table Controlled Variable (Room Temperature) Manipulated Variable (Ex: Cold Water, Lying Flat) Elapsed Time Observations 0 sec liquid 30 sec 60 sec 90 sec 120 sec 150 sec Continue on lab 5

Observations – Draw what you see Controlled Variable (Room Temperature) Manipulated Variable (Ex: Cold Water, Lying Flat) Include measurements w/ units! 6

Daily Warm-Up Exercises Day 10 What forces are constantly shaping and reshaping Earth’s surface? (Hint: constructive/destructive, use RB p.100-103) Earth processes are going all the time. Destructive processes break down landforms. These include weathering, erosion, and tectonic plates sinking and melting. Constructive processes build up. They include mountain building, deposition (sedimentation), and new crust formation. When igneous rock forms underground, is it likely to form faster, slower, or at the same rate as igneous rock that forms on Earth's surface? Slower. There is extreme heat inside Earth, so molten rock that is trapped underground will cool and harden slowly. Daily Warm-Up Exercises 9 Daily Warm-Up Exercises 9
