Dual Credit

Philosophy of Dual Credit Courses Complete college-level courses while still enrolled in high school Earn dual credit (high school and college credit) because courses include both college and high school requirements

Dual Credit Courses 4 Year Transfer English 101 and 102, USC-L Psychology 101, USC-L Criminal Justice 101, USC-L Teacher Cadet 101, Winthrop Project Lead the Way Courses, USC

Requirements for Dual Credit USC-L classes 3.0 cumulative GPA Teacher Cadet 101, WU Overall 3.0 GPA or higher, teacher recommendation, and application

Project Lead The Way University of South Carolina Introduction to Engineering Design Principles of Engineering Digital Electronics

College Credit for PLTW Engineering Courses At end of each PLTW course, register to USC. Student must have an 1100 SAT or overall B average in high school to register. Student must take the PLTW College Exam and score a 70 or above. Student earns Dual Credit weighting for the PLTW course IF these qualifications are met.

Dual Credit Assessment Credit is earned based on the overall grade in the course Assignments and assessments are given as they are in the course taught on the college campus Starts a college transcript

Dual Credit Advantages Higher GPA weighting Credit earned is not dependent upon a score from a national/international exam Dual Credit courses in core areas are transferable to all in-state public colleges, some out-of-state public colleges, and a few private colleges (Check with your college of interest to see how courses transfer) Certain circumstances result in little to no cost, especially compared to the $900.00+ cost for courses at the colleges

Dual Credit Costs USC-Lancaster (each course) $285.00 for 3-hour course or possibly eligible for no cost if student takes 6 hrs/sem (Lottery Tuition) Cost of textbooks Winthrop $0.00-30.00 University of South Carolina $198.00 each course PLTW COSTS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

Cost: When Do I Pay? USC-L and Winthrop: Students register before the course begins. Money is due before the course begins; each school will provide those deadlines. USC (PLTW Engineering courses): At the end of the course student registers to USC, takes EOC college exam and money is due

What if we still can’t decide? Schedule an appointment with Mrs. Hall lhall@rhmail.org 980-2147 Meetings can be arranged with individual subject teachers Sit in on a class or classes Talk with current students or alumni
