Figure 1 Turquoise killifish and its habitat. Seasonal savannah pools retain water for only a few months (top left), giving turquoise killifish limited time to complete their life cycle. In less than three weeks, females (top right) develop ripe eggs. Males exist in two discrete colour morphs, with a red (bottom right) or yellow (bottom left) caudal fin.
