Welcome to Truman State University Introduction Slides! Welcome to Truman State University International Student Pre-Arrival Orientation– For Transfer Students Fall 2015

Things to remember before you arrive Immigration and Employment Things to remember before you arrive You can only attend the school that issued your I-20. If you transfer to Truman from another school, you must get a new I-20 from Truman. Do not begin any non-Truman courses without first consulting the International Office.

Requesting Transfer I-20s Immigration and Employment Requesting Transfer I-20s If you are transferring to Truman from another U.S. school or from TLC, you will need a new I-20. You must provide your Truman acceptance letter to your current international office and ask them to transfer your SEVIS record. It is illegal for you to study at Truman if you have not transferred your SEVIS record.

Immigration and Employment Scholarship renewal Remember that your scholarship is renewable based only on your GPA at Truman. Your GPA from your previous school will not count.

Living on Campus Remember that housing contracts are binding. If you want to break your housing contract, it will cost you a lot of money. Exchange students who are here for one semester should choose a one year housing contract. These are the only students who are not required to reside in the residence halls for the full duration of their contract. Transfer students are welcome to live on campus, but are not required to do so. Think about how often you plan to eat in the dining halls before choosing your meal plan. There are not a lot of restaurants in Kirksville. But if you choose 20 meals per week in your dining hall, but do not use all of them, you will not receive a refund for the meals you don’t use.

Living on campus Living OFF Campus: Transfer students may live off-campus if they choose to. Lease Information -There are some important terms to know when you rent an apartment: Lease - a legal contract you sign before you move into your apartment Tenant - the person who lives in the room or apartment Landlord - the person who takes owns or takes care of the room or apartment Sublease - when you find someone to move into your apartment to take your place, this is a sublease (also called subletting) When you rent an apartment, a room in a house, or a dorm room, you will sign a legal contract. This means you promise to live there for a certain amount of time and your promise to do and not do certain things. If you live off-campus, the contract is called a "lease." If you live in a university residence hall, the contract is called a "housing contract.“
