Unit 3 - Toward Confederation Listening to the People (ch.6) 7.3.2 analyze how the struggle for responsible government was an issue of political empowerment and disempowerment 7.3.2.1 research the roles played by the churches, media, reformers, and oligarchies in the struggle for responsible government 7.3.2.2 identify and assess the significance of reports and newspaper articles which impacted the creation of responsible government

Roles Played - Churches Things they did… (p.104) Influenced how people thought and voted Stated their opinions at public gatherings Encouraged people to take one side or the other on reform Church of England & Roman Catholic Church supported the government Roman Catholic Church (Newfoundland) supported reform (fair treatment for Catholics) Protestant Churches (Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian) supported reform (not part of elite)
