Where do plants get their mass? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhCHb6xtqeY

Photosynthesis Overview Plants go through cellular respiration to create the ATP they need BUT plants cannot eat their glucose, so they have an extra step they have to go through to CREATE glucose Purpose of Photosynthesis: to create glucose using water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide so the plant can go through cellular respiration

Glucose is a Carbohydrate Carbohydrates are made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen They often form a ‘ring structure’ The monomer (smaller pieces) of carbohydrates are called monosaccharides Glucose is an example of a monosaccharide

Photosynthesis Equation

Reactants and Products Explained CO2 Comes from the atmosphere The carbons in CO2 will become the carbons in glucose H20 Comes from the roots The water replaces electrons that are lost in the process of photosynthesis Will be turned into oxygen

Reactants and Products Explained C6H12O6 A product that will go through cellular respiration to form ATP O2 A byproduct of photosynthesis Gets released from the plant cells  becomes the oxygen we breathe

Where does photosynthesis occur? Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplasts of the plant cell Where in the plant would the most chloroplast be found?

Where does photosynthesis occur? Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplasts of the plant cell Where in the plant would the most chloroplast be found? Leaves!- why? Because the absorb the most sunlight
