Presentation transcript:

27 April 2017 Starter: Write about a time when you got in trouble for something you did as a child. How did your parent, teacher, authority figure react? What was the punishment, and do you feel it was justified?

Should the children in your article be charged as adults? Pair up with someone who read a different article, share the contents of your article with your partner, and then discuss the following questions… (5 min) Should the children in your article be charged as adults? To what degree should they be held responsible for their actions? (Life in prison? Only a few years? Community service?) What similarities do we see between the articles and LotF? Should the boys on the island be held responsible for their actions?

Writing Assignment (Select ONE) 1) TYPE a one-page letter to Chicago authorities in which you state whether or not Nathaniel Brazill, Jesse Rankins and/or Tykeece Johnson should be charged as adults for the crimes they committed. If not, what punishment do you recommend? 2) TYPE a one-page letter to the British Prime Minister stating your case as to why the surviving boys should or should not be charged for the deaths of Simon and/or Piggy. Use evidence from the text to support your opinion.
