How to Study the Bible Lesson 3/4 What Do I see different in the following passages when looking at them from a different version? Genesis 2:4-25 Psalm 23 Isaiah 9:6-7 Matthew 5:1-12 Acts 9:1-19

How then do I study the Bible? I must have a strategy I must have a method I can not be lazy I must have an openness to God 5. It will change your life (Romans 8:29)

There is a Method to the Madness Observation (What do I see?) Interpretation (What does it mean?) Application (How does it work?)

Why this exercise under Observation? It Teaches Us How to Read… Thoughtfully Repeatedly Patiently Selectively Prayerfully Imaginatively Purposefully Acquisitively Telescopically

Why this exercise under Observation? It Helps Us to Know What to Look For Things that are Emphasized Repeated Related Alike or Unlike The Big Picture The Summation of our Observations. The who, what, when, how and where (s)

Questions to ask the text: Who is the author? John Who is he addressing? Important Terms or Concept? Main Verbs, and tenses? Do we need to define terms? Do we need to identify any persons or places? What do we know already about the persons or places? Do we see any cause and affect relationships? How does the test apply to my personal life? Is there anything I may want to study later?

Acts 9:1-19 KJV/NIV/CEV/NLT  And Saul, yet Saul kept on breathing out threatenings and slaughter against murderous threats the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues,

that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, Saul was uttering threats with every breath and was eager to kill the Lord’s followers. So he went to the high priest. 2 He requested letters addressed to the synagogues in Damascus, asking for their cooperation in the arrest of any followers of the Way he found there. He wanted to bring them—both men and women—back to Jerusalem in chains.

3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. a bright light from heaven suddenly flashed around him.4 And he fell to the earth, He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

5why do you persecute me. ” Why are you so cruel to me 5why do you persecute me?” Why are you so cruel to me?”  And he said, Who art thou, Lord? “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. 5 “Who are you?” Saul asked. And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “I am the one you are so cruel to. 6 Now get up and go into the city, where you will be told what to do.” IT IS HARD FOR THEE TO KICK AGAINST THE PRICKS.

6 AND HE TREMBLING AND ASTONISHED SAID, LORD, WHAT WILT THOU HAVE ME TO DO? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. 7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.

5 “Who are you, lord?” Saul asked. And the voice replied, “I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting! 6 Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

9 And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink. 8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: 8 Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. 8 Saul picked himself up off the ground, but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. 9 And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.

10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. 10 Now there was a believer in Damascus named Ananias. and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.

11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, 11 The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street the house of Judas on Straight Street. The Lord said, “Go over to Straight Street, to the house of Judas. and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, 12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. Jerusalem:

13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Lord, “But Lord,” exclaimed Ananias, a lot of people have told me about the terrible things this man has done to your followers in Jerusalem.

14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. 14 And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.” 14 Now the chief priests have given him the power to come here and arrest anyone who worships in your name.” 15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. Go! I have chosen him to tell foreigners, kings, and the people of Israel about me. Saul is my chosen instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel 16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake. 16 I will show him how much he must suffer for worshiping in my name.”

17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”. He wants you to be able to see and to be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. 19 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.

18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, 19 and after taking some food, he regained his strength Suddenly something like fish scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see. He got up and was baptized. 19 Then he ate and felt much better.
