One Spirit, Many Gifts Campaign at St. John the Baptist New Brighton One Spirit, Many Gifts

We Did the Campaign Ourselves The “What” and “Why” Of It One Spirit, Many Gifts We Did the Campaign Ourselves The “What” and “Why” Of It Steps toward a good long-term renewable Stewardship Program: Understand Catholic Stewardship Know your parish Take the “long view”

Who We Are at St. John’s in New Brighton One Spirit, Many Gifts Who We Are at St. John’s in New Brighton

Step 1 – Understanding Catholic Stewardship – “Stewardship – A Disciple’s Response” One Spirit, Many Gifts We have a duty to educate and challenge our parishioners. “… the diocesan or parish stewardship committee should have the responsibility to make sure that all leadership development and fund-raising efforts are consistent with, and reinforce, the theology and practice of stewardship as outlined in the pastoral letter and this manual” (Stewardship, A Disciple’s Response – page 52).

Step 1 – Understanding Catholic Stewardship – “Stewardship – A Disciple’s Response” One Spirit, Many Gifts Seeking pledges in 5 areas of Stewardship: Pledge to Prayer Pledge to Service Sunday Giving Capital Giving Planned Giving

Step 2 – Know Your Parish and Turn that Knowledge into an Effective Program One Spirit, Many Gifts History of campaigns at St. John’s: Capital Campaigns – 4 previous capital campaigns Sunday Giving Campaigns – several annual Sunday giving campaigns

Securing the Right Leadership One Spirit, Many Gifts The Pastor The Co-Chairs Bright, energetic, and motivated Love the Catholic church and love St. John’s

Identifying “Affinity Groups” One Spirit, Many Gifts Create campaigns based on key parish demographics. Seniors Head of household age 65 and older School Families Families with children in the school Major Donors Combining Sunday Giving and Capital Giving Who had given the most over the last four CC’s and the last two years of Sunday Giving?

Identifying “Affinity Groups” One Spirit, Many Gifts Contributors Parishioners who have a consistent record of financial giving Sustainers Parishioners who gave in any amount to all 4 prior Capital Campaigns St. John’s at Large No record of giving financially (or very small amounts given), not a school family, not a Senior, and no known involvement in ministry

Basic Tools One Spirit, Many Gifts Case statement document Campaign video – Mike Loftus PowerPoint for the meetings that lays out the case for pledging in a consistent way Commitment packet that includes a pledge form

Outcomes One Spirit, Many Gifts Very positive feedback from the parish. We met our “realistic goal” and stopped the 10-year decline in Capital Giving. We met our Sunday Giving goal. We have a better sense of non-financial involvement in our parish through pledges made to prayer and personal service. We went from less than 10 families we knew who had pledged to include St. John’s in their estate planning to 67.

Outcomes One Spirit, Many Gifts Between the campaign co-chair and the affinity group leaders, we developed a broad base of leadership and we were able to take advantage of different campaign ideas that were shared among leaders. We have a solid platform for ongoing renewals of One Spirit, Many Gifts into the future.

Long-Term Renewable Stewardship Program One Spirit, Many Gifts Steps Toward a Good Long-Term Renewable Stewardship Program Understand Catholic Stewardship Know your parish Take the “long view”
