Year 1 Times Tables

2014 Curriculum Count in steps of 2, 5 and 10 from 0 and from any number. Recognise multiples of 2, 5 and 10. Use concrete objects to double and halve numbers within 20. Solve one step problems involving multiplication, including problems in contexts using concrete objects, pictorial representations and arrays with the support of the teacher.

As from 2017 Year 6 children will have to take a times tables test online. This test will be timed to assess your child’s knowledge, speed and accuracy.

Multiplication Vocabulary Slide 13

Progression Counting in steps Chanting Learning by rote Learning in random order

Fluency By heart- Doubles of numbers to 10 Find a total when counting in groups of 2, 5 or 10 A flower has 5 petals. How many petals do 5 flowers have? Circle the multiples of two 12 13 17 18 21

Reasoning Which has more? 4 bags of sweets with 5 in each or 3 bags of sweets with 10 in each? Explain your reasoning. I have 35p in my pocket in 5p coins. How many coins do I have? Draw a picture to prove your answer.

Problem Solving Ben buys a ball for 5p. If he buys 6 balls, how much will it cost him?

Fluency By heart- Halving numbers to 20 Share objects equally into groups of 2, 5 and 10

Reasoning If Sam and Joe had 15 sweets and they shared them, they would get 7 each- true or false.

Problem Solving Ted has 8 cars and he shared them with Joe- how many did they get each?
