ERC – Facts and Figures The ERC represents 17% of the overall Horizon 2020 budget (€ 13.1 billion of € 77 billion) The total annual budget for 2017 is of around €1.8 billion, the highest ever since the ERC's inception in 2007 Since 2007, some 8,000 projects have been selected for funding from more than 65,000 applications ERC grantees have won prestigious prizes, including 6 Nobel Prizes, 4 Fields Medals, 5 Wolf Prize and more Over 40,000 articles acknowledging ERC support in international, peer reviewed journals to the end of 2015
Types of Grants Starting Grant Consolidator Grant Advanced Grant Proof Of Concept Grant Synergy Grant
Starting Grant Researchers of any nationality with 2-7 years of experience since completion of PhD Principal Investigator shall have been awarded his or her first PhD > 2 and ≤ 7 years Starting Grants can be up to a maximum of EUR 1 500 000 for a period of 5 years
Starting Grant (early achievements) 1. Up to five publications in major international peer-reviewed multi- disciplinary scientific journals as main author or without the presence as co- author of their PhD supervisor (properly referenced, field relevant bibliometric indicators may also be included); 2. Research monographs and any translations thereof; 3. Granted patent(s); 4. Invited presentations to internationally established conferences and/or international advanced schools; 5. Prizes/ Awards/ Academy memberships.
Consolidator Grant Researchers of any nationality with 7-12 years of experience since completion of PhD Principal Investigator shall have been awarded his or her first PhD > 7 and ≤ 12 years Consolidator Grants can be up to a maximum of EUR 2 000 000 for a period of 5 years
Consolidator Grant (early achievements) 1. Up to ten publications in major international peer-reviewed multi- disciplinary scientific journals as main author or without the presence as co- author of their PhD supervisor (properly referenced, field relevant bibliometric indicators may also be included); 2. Research monographs and any translations thereof; 3. Granted patent(s); 4. Invited presentations to internationally established conferences and/or international advanced schools; 5. Advanced Grant Researchers of any nationality Beyond 12 years past PhD Principal Investigator shall have an important track- record in the last 10 years Advanced Grants can be up to a maximum of EUR 2 500 000 for a period of 5 years
Advanced Grant (10-year track-record) 1. Up to ten publications in major international peer-reviewed multi- disciplinary scientific journals as main author or without the presence as co- author of their PhD supervisor (properly referenced, field relevant bibliometric indicators may also be included); 2. Research monographs and any translations thereof; 3. Granted patent(s); 4. Invited presentations to internationally established conferences and/or international advanced schools; 5. Research Expeditions that the applicant PI has led; 6. Organisation of International conferences in the field of the applicant 7. Prizes/ Awards/ Academy memberships.
Proof of concept Grant ERC Laureates of a core grant of any nationality during with An ongoing project or a project that had ended less than 12 months before the 1st January of current Work Programme Principal Investigator shall have been awarded his or her first PhD > 7 and ≤ 12 years Proof of concept Grants can be up to a maximum of EUR 150 000 for a period of 12 months (extension to 18 months possible)
Synergy Grant Group of 2 to 4 researchers of any nationality with A Starting, Consolidator or Advanced profile Principal Investigators with a Starting or Consolidator profile shall prove their Synergy Grants can be up to a maximum of EUR 10 000 000 for a period of 6 years
Synergy Grant 2-pages CV and 2 pages Track-record for each candidate Either an early achievement track-record (Cf Starting and Consolidator) or an 10-year track record (Cf Advanced) PI with Starting or Consolidator profile need to give a copy of their PhD to be evaluated as such
