There is no program and no policy that can substitute for a parent who is involved in their childs education from day one. President Barack Obama Overview

The Parent Engagement Survey is a strategic web-based assessment tool that gauges the degree and scope of parent engagement in your school or district on six factors identified by scholars as key components of parent engagement. The Parent Engagement Survey provides: Benchmarking Data A Customized, Detailed Report Rapid and Actionable Feedback Overview

Benefits of the Parent Engagement Survey Positive Student Outcomes. Parent engagement has been linked to increased academic performance, school attendance, student emotional well-being, and classes passed. Effective Interventions. Initiatives to increase engagement are most effective when designed based on accurate knowledge of the degree and scope of parent involvement. Strengthening Support. Actively seeking parent perspectives demonstrates that parent voice is valued, which is essential for a schools long-term viability and success. Fulfilling Requirements. Parent engagement efforts are an increasingly prominent requirement of many education agency funding sources(e.g., Title I, Race to the Top). 4

Survey Specifics The Parent Engagement Survey is a 29-item web-based questionnaire. 27 close-ended items 2 open-ended items Schools can add up to six additional customized items (5 close-ended items and 1 open-ended item) on any topic, at no extra cost. Parents indicate level of agreement with statements using a 5-point Likert- type response scale ranging from 1(Strongly Disagree) to 5 (Strongly Agree). Items are based on Joyce Epsteins nationally-recognized work on key family involvement strategies. Survey items result in six subscales, which correspond to six factors identified by scholars as key components of parent engagement. Parent demographic information is also collected.

Parent Engagement Survey Factors 6

Survey Report A customized report is provided within 15 days of the survey end date, providing rapid and actionable feedback. The report presents in detail: Average scores for each item and each factor Benchmarking data (by item and factor) of similar schools Notable differences in the comparison of your school to other schools All open-ended responses and comments from parents Questions for reflection regarding use of results General recommendations 7

Sample Comparison of Results 8

Sample Factor Reporting 9

Assistance Provided SRG provides schools assistance with respect to: Designing valid customized items Increasing parent participation Marketing the survey to parents Monitoring response rates to identifying whether additional efforts or strategies need to be employed 10

Survey Cost SRG offers a flat-rate fee structure per school that is comparatively more cost effective than conducting a similar survey with the same level of design validity, methodological rigor, analytic detail, and assessment expertise. Typically, prices start at $800 per school. Reduced rates are offered for district-wide participation. 11
