Causes of Diversity and Evolution of Life on Earth Charles Darwin Alfred Russell Wallace.
EVOLUTION. EVOLUTION The first living organisms were simple, single celled organisms. Through time more complex simple- celled creatures were created.
NOTES WILL COVER: Evolution Mutations Natural Selection
Theory of Evolution. Identify evidence of change in species using DNA sequences, anatomical similarities, physiological similarities, embryology and fossils.
Evolution by Natural Selection
AND ADAPTATIONS NATURAL SELECTION 1. CHARLES DARWIN His theory of evolution by natural selection explained: Where all of the astonishingly diverse kinds.
What is Evolution? Evolution is the progressive change in organisms or species over time.
Darwin's Lost Fossils Found In Desk Drawer. Evolution is how species have evolved from simple life forms.
Aim: How does evolution occur by natural selection?
Evolution By Aimee Chavez. Species  Species: group of organisms that share similar characteristics and can reproduce among themselves to produce fertile.

NATURAL SELECTION IGCSE Biology Revision Notes. Darwin’s Original Idea 1. Individuals in a species show a wide range of variation 2. Variation is caused.
Charles Darwin* Theorized that species changed over time through a process called 'natural selection'.
What is Evolution? Chapter 4.1 and 4.4. What conditions in the environment cause these 2 examples to survive and develop over thousands of years?
What determines who we are? Genes and Chromosomes.

Chapter 4.1 What is evolution?

Graphic Organizer Evolution Adaptations Genetic Mutations Species Evolution Adaptations Genetic Mutations Is caused by:

Evolution ___________is process by which species change over time. Evidence shows that the earliest living things were very simple. Over time, they became more complex . Many species became extinct and replaced by others.

_________: is a group of organisms that look alike and can breed with each other.

Adaptations Living things are found everywhere in the world. How do different organisms survive different climates? All organisms have adaptations. ______________: is a trait or characteristics that helps an organism to survive in its environment.

Fast Facts Adaptations help organisms to Get food Avoid predators Reproduce Move from place to place Build shelters Raise offspring Structural adaptations – involve body parts Camouflage by insects Spines on a cactus Webbed feet of a duck Long trunk of elephant Etc.

Fast facts (con’t.) Behavioral adaptations – actions that aid (help) survival An opossum lying down and playing dead when attacked by other animals A spider’s web spinning A bird’s courting dance Mother’s care for her young

GENE MUTATIONS: _____________- a sudden change in DNA sequence that affects genetic information

Gene Mutations: Species evolve over time. Changes happen in genes that affects an organism(s). If the mutation is positive or neutral, it may be passed from a generation to another. If it’s negative (harmful), an organism can die from it without passing it on.

Graphic Organizer Evolution Adaptations- Genetic Mutations Species Is a group of animals or plants that look alike and can breed with each other Evolution Adaptations- Genetic Mutations Is a gradual change in species over time. Is caused by: Is a trait that helps an organism to survive in its environment Is a sudden change in DNA or gene (can be positive, neutral or negative)

Checking concepts: What is evolution?

What adaptations help birds to live in trees?

Why do you think albinism is a harmful mutation?

Checking concepts: Most scientists believe that new species evolve from ______________. Organisms change over time by the process of _______________. A feature or trait that helps an organism live in a certain environment is an _______________. A sudden change in a gene is a ______________.
