This week Conference papers due May 8.

The last week Your review of another’s conference paper due May 15. Final version of yours due.

Class project papers (conference submissions) Papers due May 8. CVPR, NIPS or other 6-8 page format is ok. You review of someone else’s paper is due May 15. Ok with me if you turn in revised version of your paper on May 15, but by May 8 you must have a good version that someone can review. I’ll return comments on your papers and on your reviews. You’ll also get the fellow student’s review. Auditors can participate, but if you submit a paper, you also need to submit a review. Please treat these reviews like any other: with confidentiality regarding the research contents.

Forms for the review NIPS reviewing form and instructions to reviewers will be posted (tonight) on the course web site.

6.838 Algorithms for Computer Animation i think the students in your class would find the animation problems fascinating. it's a great opportunity for students to apply what they know to brand new problems. if they would like more info, please have them send me an email at jovan@lcs.mit.edu. 6.838 Algorithms for Computer Animation Animation is a compelling and effective form of expression; it engages viewers and makes difficult concepts easier to grasp. Today's animation industry creates films, special effects, and games with stunning visual detail and quality. This graduate class will investigate the algorithms that make these animations possible: keyframing, inverse kinematics, physical simulation, optimization, optimal control, motion capture, and data-driven methods. Our study will also reveal the shortcomings of these sophisticated tools. The students will propose improvements and explore new methods for computer animation in semester-long research projects. The course should appeal to both students with general interest in computer graphics and students interested in new applications of machine learning, robotics, biomechanics, physics, applied mathematics and scientific computing.
