Turn in science contracts. Due tomorrow.

Describe what you think of when you hear the word “scientist” Describe what you think of when you hear the word “scientist”! Be specific about age, appearance, gender, clothing, etc.!

How many people pictured someone like this? White male, older. Wearing a lab coat, glasses, tie. Somewhat crazy looking!

This is not an accurate image! Today’s scientists and engineers come from every race, culture, ethnic group, gender, and age! We will explore the different titles and branches of science they are from by doing a coded puzzle!

Super scientists

Zoology – study animals Branches of Science Biology – study of living things Botany – study plants Zoology – study animals Chemistry – study of what substances things are made of, and how they can interact.

Includes movement, heat, light, sound, waves, electricity, and more. Physics – study of non-living things and matter and energy. Includes movement, heat, light, sound, waves, electricity, and more. Geology – study of the earth’s structure and its properties and processes.

Astronomy – study of space, planets, stars and other celestial objects.

Super Scientists Coded Puzzle! We will learn about different scientists by using a code and clues about them to figure out the branch of science.

Super Scientists We learned about all different types of scientists in our Super Scientist sheet. Do any of those sound like you?

I am a scientist Pick one of the scientists listed on your paper and draw yourself as one of them. The drawing should take up the entire page You are drawing YOURSELF (can be in a group if that makes sense for your field) No stick figures The entire thing should be colored Pick logical clothes and a logical setting Include at least two tools that your scientist would use

Questions for the back of your drawing. Which scientist did you choose? Why did you choose that scientist? What type of tools would you use as this scientist? Would you like to work in a group or by yourself as this scientist? Why? As a sixth grader, are you a scientist currently? Why or why not?
