2016-2017 KMS Schedule

Understanding the Schedule (Koa) This session will help you to understand how to read your schedule of classes and to understand how the bell schedule works.

KMS Bell Schedule There are four bell schedules at middle school. Regular, Panina, MAP, Kaunoo and an AM Modified Schedule.

Blocks of Time Regular Day 75 minutes Panina Day 60 minutes The schedule is comprised of blocks of time

What are the benefits of a Block Schedule? Fewer classes per day Teachers can provide individualized instruction More class time to conduct extended learning activities More class time to make deeper learning connections Have an opportunity to thoroughly complete homework and better manage workload Fewer classes per day = less homework, less movement between classes Individualized instruction =

Rotational Pattern to the Schedule There are 8 rotations – A thru H The Block is a period of time The Period refers to the Class – Core, Elective, Exploratory, PE, Guidance, Religious Education, ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi or Study Time

Huh? Why Does the Schedule Rotate? Addresses Optimum Learning Time Provides Variety Research indicates that there are “ideal learning times” for each individual – some people are morning people, etc. Students and teachers can become bored following the same schedule every day.

Regular Schedule At the beginning of the week, starts with WEHENA Other days, report to ADVISORY There are two schedules that are used most often Regular

Panina Schedule Panina Occurs at the end of a week Morning Grade Level CHAPEL ADVISORY Joint Devotional Service Activity Period Club Dance Assembly Panina The second most used schedule in the Panina Schedule In the morning block grade levels will alternate between Chapel, Advisory or Joint Devotional service At the end of the day during the Club/Activity Period students will attend either club or other planned activities such as a dance or assembly.
