The Periodic Table GROUPS

ALKALI METALS very reactive metals Hydrogen is not a member, it is a non-metal 1 electron in the outer shell combine violently with water (stored in oil) Only compounds in nature soft and shiny (can be cut with a knife)

ALKaLINE EARTH METALS very reactive (less reactive than alkali metals) -only compounds in nature -hard, grey-white, good conductors 2 electrons in the outer shell

TRANSITION METALS ductile and malleable, and conduct electricity and heat groups 3-12 bridge between very reactive and less reactive elements

METALLOIDS have properties of both metals and non-metals. semiconductor/insulator of electricity

HALOGENS exist in all three states of matter -dangerous to humans -poisonous and highly corrosive

NOBLE GASES do not form compounds easily found in the atmosphere -chemically stable/not reactive Happy Elements (Full outer shells)

RARE EARTH ELEMENTS Lanthanides & Actinides
