You’re in… PHYSICS!

What should I expect? Expect a very hands on class with plenty of labs and projects. 2. Expect to ask questions, participate in discussions, and think. 3. Expect to put in time outside of class, working problems, reading, and studying.

General Policies/Procedures No items get handed directly to me Homework items, due dates, and other important info are always posted, daily All work and units must be shown on student assignments, always

What if I need additional help? Your success in this class is the most important thing to me. You may come in during seminar. You are encouraged to schedule a time with me Open tutoring is available and will be posted on the website and in the hall

What if I am absent or misplace something? Websites Email Mrs. O Ask classmates

Other Information Online portfolios will be review by parents and other students Safety Contract is in the handbook Sign up for Remind

Aligning Grades to Goals Each UNIT is designed based on what you are trying to learn. Gradebook will align to these GOALS, not to activities. The purpose: You will be able to clearly identify what you have mastered and what area(s) you need to address. You can improve your grade for that goal (following requirements). You will also track your own understanding If you below proficient you will be required to improve

End of semester last assessments Will be cumulative. Cannot be reassessed. The final assessment may be exempted as per school guidelines

Gradebook scale: 10 – Mastery 9.5 – High Advanced 9 – Advanced 8 – Proficient 7 – Developing 6 – Beginner 5 – Below Basic

Eschool Unit objective = unassisted grade based on goals Unit goals = 1 (good!) or Z (not good) Weekly effort = did you do homework, etc

Gradebook Codes Blank – score not entered yet (not counted) X – excused score (you are good) Z – zero due to absence or goal not mastered Any Z in gradebook, at all, = must take the final 0 – score was not made up or no effort was given and stands as a zero.

Where are we going in AP? AP test practice Specific applications… Momentum Energy Circular motion: kinematics and dynamics Dynamics Motion only

Where are we going in Physics? Electric forces/circuits Energy Momentum Forces II Acceleration Forces I Velocity

Integrity (doing the right thing even when no one is watching): Allowing another student to copy any of your work Verbally communicating assessment answers to another student Revealing information about assessments to others Use of phone, notes, other materials during assessments Obtaining or copying work from any source and submitting it as your own Rephrasing another person’s ideas and presenting them as your own without giving credit
