Some final reflections Awareness raising of health literacy issues has resulted in many contacts for advice and evidence that health literacy is being considered in planning initiatives, patient information and general service delivery National and international as well as local interest in the work of the Demonstrator has provided opportunities to share learning and influence practice on a wider scale Organisational approach is required to roll out the learning and good practice, and to provide a truly health literate service

Ten attributes of a health literate organisation Leadership Planning, evaluation, patient safety and quality improvement Health literate workforce Includes populations in design, implementation, evaluation Meets the needs of populations with a range of health literacy skills while avoiding stigmatization Confirms understanding at all points of contact. Easy access to health information, services and navigation Designs and distributes range of media content that is easy to understand and act on. Addresses health literacy in high-risk situations, including care transitions and communications about medicines. Communicates clearly
