What is a Clause?

Sentences are made up of clauses and phrases. Today we will just focus on clauses. All clauses have a subject and a verb. Subject – Who/What the sentence is about. This is a clause. It’s got a subject (Susie), a verb (brushes). Susie brushes her teeth. Verb – doing word at the pond. This is not a clause because it doesn’t have a subject and a verb.
