Presentation transcript:

Real world linear project Name School Class & Teacher

Tell your story about your scenario Tell your story about your scenario. Do not write your linear equation at this point.

A linear equation that represents my story is: Write your linear equation here real big. No explanations.

What does the equation mean? DISCUSS Y = MX + B EXPLAIN HOW YOU KNOW YOUR EQUATION IS LINEAR TELL WHAT EACH PART OF SLOPE – INTERCEPT FORM MEANS. MAKE SURE TO DESCRIBE EACH LETTER THIS MAY TAKE 1 – 3 SLIDES

HERE IS A TABLE DESCRIBING FIVE DIFFERENCE SCENARIOS OF MY LINEAR EQUATION. Create A Table Of 5 Points First One Being Where X = 0. Remember To Label Your Values. x Y

A Visual representation of my data Create a line graph with the 5 points from previous slide Go to Insert Chart and make a line graph Be sure to label your axis and give graph a title

What does this concept of slope really mean? Restate the rate (slope) Explain in detail what it means. For example: Is it a unit rate or cost of one item? (One pencil is $0.25, so y = 0.25x) Or is it a changing rate? Like adding 2 points each basket? (Y = 2x) Or is it speed? (This car travels 65 mph y=65x, the other travels 55 mph y=55x…..) REMEMBER!!! This concept of slope really means a lot of different things!! Talk in detail what slope means for your situation.

My initial value (or where I began) is: Describe where you began and what it means for your equation. Hint: This is where x = 0 Don’t just give the ordered pair, give the ordered pair and give 2 – 3 sentences about what that means in your story.

My graph is (Increasing or decreasing) Explain what that means IN DETAIL. (Don’t just say that means my line is going up.) If a line is increasing, would that mean you are making or losing money? If the line is increasing, are you going faster or at the same speed?

My future Input value Write a short story using an input value of x that is NOT on your table or graph. Use this as a closing. Make up an amount that has not been shown yet and write a very detailed story using that amount.

(See Google to find out how to.) references Example: Dabit, T. (2018, April 16). Let's graph a line & understand what it means for real. Retrieved from https://www.mathwithdabit.com/lab-graphing-linear-equations.html OTHER USEFUL INFO: Use this if you uploaded a presentation from Blackboard / Remind that an instructor wrote. If you talk to / email / text someone about your real life story to get info, use this. Change “Personal interview” to ‘Class MA 101 Lecture’ to reference something you heard in class.

Most important!! Impress ME!!!! You know that it is important to THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX and GO ABOVE AND BEYOND! Don’t settle for mediocre!
