“A white girl looks at race-the dr. king march” This is about a white girl named Susan who was present while a Dr. King march was going on. Her grandparents were racist, and called the people who were marching “coloreds” In the text, her father was rounded up to go put a tarp over the bricks so that people wouldn’t throw bricks at the marchers Contrary to what her grandparents said, susan went outside, and watched the march.

“A white girl looks at race-the dr. king march” part 2 In the text it claims, “I felt a strange mixture of shame and triumph. Shame for the part of me that was hating them so, so embarrassed by my grandparents prejudices and, then, the part of me that felt triumph because I’d done it. Dr. King’s people were marching through my neighborhood and I’d done something: I’d marched out my front door. At sixteen it was the best I could do.”

“A white girl looks at race-the dr. king march” part 3 The march left the town in shambles. Buildings were deserted, people were getting hurt, cars were on fire, and overall, just causing destruction. Marchers walked through a “tunnel of white people” hand and hand, while the white people were shouting racist things like, “Coloreds, go home! Go live with your own kind. Go home!”

“A white girl looks at race-the dr. king march” part 4 Susan walks to the park, then soon after, she sees a army helicopter, She looks down 84th street and sees a truck with a flag on top of it, a Nazi flag. The loudspeaker next to the flag blared for all to hear exclaiming, “White power rally!” In the text it says “I want black people to have freedom to live wherever they want to. I do. I do. That’s what I believe in.”
