The Rise of Democratic Ideals Prologue – Section 1 The Rise of Democratic Ideals Essential Question: What are the different political systems that developed in ancient Athens?

Prologue Section 1 Objectives To identify and describe the different political systems that developed in Ancient Athens. To identify the ancient Greek philosophers and describe their contributions towards western democracy.

Political Systems in Athens MONARCHY – a state ruled by someone of direct royal birth.

Political Systems in Athens 2. ARISTOCRACY – a state ruled by someone from the noble class.

Political Systems in Athens 3. LIMITED DEMOCRACY – a state ruled by the will of the people, but not all people are allowed access to gov’t. WOMEN SLAVES FOREIGNERS
