Presentation transcript:

Communicating without words! Safe Road User Communicating without words!

Look once – look twice What do you see? On the road we often perceive thing differently from other road users. Many accidents are caused by misinterpreting information

Off his trolley – or what? A mother with a pram is trying to get into a shop doorway. A very helpful young man, exiting the shop, helped with the door and the pram so the mother could enter the shop. The young man went round the back of the shop to the car park for his car. The mother bought some items. When the mother exited the shop, she turned and crossed the car park exit. At this point the young man was also exiting the car park in his car and was furious at the mother stepping out. He blasted his horn and shouted abuse at the mother for getting in his way! Why do people change behind the wheel?

Your task 1. List as many reasons as you can for the driver’s behaviour. 2. List some of the ways in which a driver of a car could communicate with other road users. 3. List some of the ways in which a rider of a motorcycle could communicate with other road users. Can you think of at least three likely misinterpreted communications between road users.
