Current Situation regarding Bikes at Berea College An abundance of bikes are impounded each year by Public Safety due to abandoned bikes left on campus. The bikes are stored in surplus and made available for sale each year during the surplus sale open to anyone. Those bikes not bought are scrapped.

Problem with Current Situation The current situation does not factor in how many Berea College students could benefit from a bike program allowing students use of these abandoned bikes.

So what ever could we do?

Berea Bike Club (Berea College Bike Membership Program) Presented by: Holden Dillman, Alternative Transportation Coordinator

Where are we? Partnered with Public Safety, Surplus, & Student Accounts on logistics. Established a labor position for Bike Repair Technician. Update Clover Bottom Cottage Garage as a bike repair location. (Mention potential design team.) Utilize current OS labor position, Alternative Transportation Coordinator, to oversee the implementation of the program.

Membership includes: + Nominal rental fee for use of one bike per semester ($20/semester) + Helmet & bike lock + Workshops on bike safety and basics of repair using the bike repair workstations on campus + Bike repairs (on items that cannot be repaired by member using the self-repair bike stations) + Bike tours as developed + Option to own the bike after two semesters of rental and the bike passes a bike inspection. One semester if student is graduating and passes inspection. Rebate option for those bikes returned in good working condition
