Thinking About Rules Less is More Avoid making rules or policies in response to rare or occasional incidents Review policies and rules often Once a year minimum Put the program rules to “The Test” What is the purpose? Is it enforceable? Is it necessary or can the issue be solved differently? Avoid ….: I’m surprised we didn’t make a rule banning children from playing in the refrigerator. Review…. We had four rules. Now down to two. Put the program….. Rule #8…Children are not allowed in the kitchen
Participant/Human Respect Requiring a participant to attend meetings/support services at a specific day and time offer 3-5 programs offered on different times and dates? Or find out what the participant is interested in and then network with area programs? Have a Curfew? why not teach people how to go out safely, providing resources in case it doesn’t go well? We have think outside the box to meet people where they are at. Have a curfew?: Rule #10. example of woman wanting to have dinner with husband.
