Post-Modernist Perspective Post means ‘after’, so Post-Modern means ‘After Modern Times’ Post modernists don’t accept what is ‘normal’ and ‘given’ in society They are always searching for the ‘truth’ They question everything that society deems as ‘normal’

Post-Modernist Perspective Post modernists are inventive and innovative They will be looking for new ways of doing things and looking for answers to questions They will be searching for the cures to cancer and HIV

Post-Modernist Perspective Post modernists see everything in modern society inside a box They don’t want to stay inside the box They are not content with what is currently inside the box They think outside the box

Post-Modernist Perspective If you had a broken ankle what would you do? Why do think in the way that you do? What might an African Tribe’s person do if they had a broken ankle? How would a post-modernist think about a broken ankle? What else could cure it? Broken ankle – A&E, get it strapped up. An African tribe’s person might chant, get a witch doctor, pray etc. that would be normal for them. Why are we so entrenched in our western views on medicine. If you have a headache, what do you do? Paracetamol? Amanda Clarke says that you can push your thumbs together and it will get rid of your headache. We take painkillers in the form of medication without thinking about it. A postmodernist would question why we do this and challenge us to find new ways to get rid of pain.

Post-Modernist Perspective Post modernists see current medicine practice as controlling and regulating patients They would be interested in exploring alternative ways of achieving healing, these could include therapies, the power of the mind or God etc They would search for new ways of doing procedures and operations They would search for cures for illnesses that are currently untreatable
